Morley’s Run

Location

The race course will take participants by many Johnstown landmarks, beginning at the Westmont Grove and ending at PNG Park. This event (both competitive and family oriented) is open to all ages.

The proceeds from this event will benefit the Newspaper in Education program that supplies newspapers to area teachers for use as curriculum in their classrooms.

Pre-Registration Includes

  • Race Jersey-Participants that register by October 7 will be guaranteed a long sleeve wicking style jersey. Registration from October 7 to race day will receive one as supplies last.

  • Race packets along with runner numbers may be picked up on Friday Nov 1 , from 8am to 5pm at The Tribune-Democrat Service Center. Runners may also pick up Race packets on race day at the starting line, up to one-half hour prior to start time.

Amenities

  • Bag check-check your personal bag at the starting line and pick it up at the finish line. The Tribune-Democrat is not responsible for lost or stolen bag.

  • Musical Entertainment

  • Restrooms

  • Ride on the Incline Plane for participants back to the starting line after the race.

Course Description

Morley’s 10 Miler:

Course Notes (Course subject to change as Director sees fit):

The 10 Mile run starts in the parking lot of the Grove.  At the entrance of the Grove the runners will turn right onto Clarion St.  Then turn left on Bucknell Ave., turn left on Venango St. (heading back towards Edgehill Dr. and Inclined Plane); make a right on Edgehill Dr. and run past the Inclined Plane to Tioga St. Turn right on Tioga St. , follow until the end. Make a left onto Hood and a quick right onto Luzerne St. Take Luzerne St. to the Westmont Middle School and turn left on Diamond Blvd. Turn left onto Menoher (stay on the left side of road), turn left onto bus lane that runs between the school and athletic field. Make a right onto alley (running along side the athletic field). Make a right onto Hood Ave (along the fence of the athletic field). Hood turns left into Wayne Ave. Run Wayne Ave. until the end, turn left on Dartmouth and then turn Right onto Luzerne St. Run Luzerne St. to the end (Bucknell), turn left onto Bucknell Ave. Take next right back onto Tioga, Tioga turns into Edgehill running back to the Inclined Plane. Stay on Edgehill and Pass the Inclined Plane, take Edgehill to Wyoming St. make left onto Wyoming St. (note “slight” hill). Follow Wyoming St. (At top of hill stay straight, Wyoming turns into Crystal) until Stackhouse Park Entrance (the Stackhouse Park Entrance will be on your left across from Lehigh St.). Enter the park and follow Crystal Path straight through until Fayette, Turn right to the parking lot and the soccer field of OMOS School. Stay on Main path - follow Path to Ranger Station ( West Hills Police ) and follow main path to the right. Take Path all the way to bottom of Stackhouse and exit Stackhouse Park onto Norton Rd. Take Norton Rd. to D St. and veer to the right. Take D St. to the end and make a right onto Laurel Ave. under the train viaduct. Take Laurel Ave. to Iron St. Turn right on Iron St., follow Iron St. to the 4th Avenue bridge. Turn right on 4th Avenue and cross the bridge into Cambria City. Take first right onto Power St., make a left onto 6th Ave and a quick right onto Cambria Pl. Go one block and make a left onto 7th Ave and the next left onto Chestnut St. Stay on Chestnut St. until 3rd Ave. Make a left onto 3rd Ave (run past Bottle Works and Art Works buildings). Make a right onto Power St. (Power St. turns into Roosevelt Blvd), and run along the river. Stay to the left and run on the sidewalk (about 100 yards) to the pedestrian bridge. Cross the pedestrian bridge (by JWF). Make a right back onto Iron St., run strong to the finish inside Peoples Natural Gas Park


Morley’s 5 Miler Run/Walk:

Start close to the entrance of the Grove, head South on Edgehill Dr., turn right onto Fayette St. From Fayette St. enter Stackhouse Park through the ramp. (different then 10 Miler) Turn right on main path. Take path all the way to bottom of Stackhouse Park and exit Stackhouse Park onto Norton Rd. Take Norton Rd. to D St. and veer to the right. Take D St. to the end and make a right onto Laurel Ave. under the train viaduct. Take Laurel Ave. to Iron St. Turn right on Iron St., follow Iron St. to the 4th Avenue bridge. Turn right on 4th Avenue and cross the bridge into Cambria City. Take first right onto Power St., make a left onto 6th Ave and a quick right onto Cambria Pl. The Incline Plane will be operating prior to the race for participants and spectators to ride to the starting area. Free rides will be offered back to the starting area after the race for all Morley's Run Participants.

Course Rules

  1. Other than adaptive vehicles, no other mode of transportation is permitted. No unicycles, bicycles, baby strollers, skates/roller blades, pets (other than service pets) or non-registered runners or individuals are permitted on the courses.

  1. Volunteers will make every effort to direct runners along the course(s) however, runners are responsible for any lost time for misdirect.

  1. All numbers must be displayed in front of participant shirts.

  1. Cheating of any sort will result in disqualification (i.e. exchanging of runner numbers and re-entering the course, etc.)

  1. Wearing of headsets is not recommended.

  1. Runners should expect to maintain a 12 minute-per-mile pace. As the race progresses, sections of the course will close so we cannot guarantee the availability of water or aid stations for runners who run slower than the suggested pace. Participant of the 10 mile run must run-no walker.

  1. The race director(s) reserve the right to reject any entry and to disqualify any participant for unruly conduct or failing to follow the designated course. It is the runner’s responsibility to know the course.

  1. The course officially closes three hours after the start of the race(s). No official times will be recorded after that time.

  1. All decisions of the Race Directors are FINAL!

  1. All participants will be required to sign a Release from Liability Waiver prior to the race.
